The object is a suspected 'TOAD' (Tremendous Outburst Amplitude Dwarf nova), according to Steve Howell, Astrophysics Group, Planetary Science Institute, AZ. The outburst detection has been confirmed by Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK. Since very little is known about QY Per, we strongly recommend follow- up observations. Available observations : 1995 Aug 21.006 UT, [13.9 (G. Poyner, 0.40-m refl., seq: TA); Aug 21.979 UT, 14.1 (T. Vanmunster, 0.35-m refl., seq: TA); Aug 22.010 UT, 14.8 (G. Poyner); Aug 22.011 UT, 14.8 (T. Vanmunster); Aug 22.022 UT, 14.8 (G. Poyner); Aug 22.029 UT, 14.8 (T. Vanmunster); Aug 22.034 UT, 14.8 (G. Poyner); The previous outburst of QY Per (the first one ever observed visually, -probably a superoutburst-) was detected on Oct. 25, 1994 by Tonny Vanmunster. The object reached mag. 14.0 during that outburst (CVC 20 and CVC 21). Tonny Vanmunster
