V542 Cyg [UGSS:, 13.0p - 18.3:p]

Referring to John Bortle's VSNET message on enhanced activity of
V542 Cyg, it now has become evident that this system finally is
undergoing an outburst, as indicated by the set of observations
presented below :

1995 Oct 13.00  UT, [15.5  (J. Bortle, seq.: AAVSO);
     Oct 14.03  UT, [15.1  (J. Bortle);
     Oct 17.035 UT,  15.1  (J. Bortle);
     Oct 17.081 UT,  15.1  (J. Bortle);
     Oct 18.013 UT,  15.0  (J. Bortle);
     Oct 19.113 UT,  14.6  (J. Bortle);
     Oct 19.781 UT,  14.1  (L. Szentasko, 0.33-m refl.);
     Oct 19.957 UT,  13.7  (E. Broens, 0.35-m refl., seq.: AAVSO);
     Oct 20.019 UT,  13.8  (T. Vanmunster, 0.35-m refl., seq.: AAVSO); 
 
V542 Cyg was last seen in outburst on July 14, 1995 by Tonny Vanmunster
(CVC 46) and reached maximum brightness 13.7 on July 16th (CVC 47). The
outburst probably did not last longer than 5 days or so. 

Since the subclassification of V542 Cyg as a SS Cyg-type dwarf nova still
seems unsecure, we stronly recommend detailed photometric follow-up obser-
vations, preferably by CCD or photoelectric means. The present outburst
should especially be monitored for the possible development of superhumps.
